Babel and the Essay

Babel was, by far, the most interesting movie I've ever seen. However, the message that lays deep within the odd choice of camera shots and plot turns is completely accurate and legitimate.

One woman from the US was shot in a different country and it affects not just 2 cultures but several. It's like we are all linked by something.

Kind of like that "8 Degrees of Kevin Bacon" theory. I think that's what it's called.

Like the movie, the essay describes how all different kinds of cultures are aware of each other yet don't naturally see how other people in other countries affect their lives on a regular, daily basis. This is completely true.

When I went to Singapore, no one thought I was Britney Spears or Cameron Diaz, like Americans would think. "We all look the same to them, they'll think you're a famous person I'm sure." However, it was nothing of the sort. They were so plugged into our culture in America that I was completely blown away. Who knew?
